Heavy Metal

Bloomberg Law sent samples of baby food distributed in the United States to chemical laboratories for testing. The results?

Baby food in stores throughout the US contains heavy metals in amounts that can lower children’s IQs and cause developmental problems.

All but one of the products contained at least two of three heavy metals: lead, arsenic and cadmium.

The Food and Drug Administration has known about the problem for years, but even after a 2021 Congressional investigation that resulted in two damning reports, little has changed.

How difficult can it be for a national agency charged with safeguarding human health to implement its mission?
